CURRENT ISSUE ON PPSMI

Malaysia Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin which is also our Education Minister had stated that the government will not backtrack on its decision to do away with the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English.  Both of the subjects will continue to be taught in English until 2015, where the final batch of the students has completed their secondary education. There are several NGO groups such as Parents Action Group for Education Malaysia (PAGE) that stand against this decision and want parents and students to have freedom in choosing language to study Science and Mathematics.

From my opinion, I think it is very important for our country to have stability regarding this issue. The instability and changes in education policies give great impact on the students. Their future lies on the policies that have been made by the government.

 PPSMI policy was initiated by our former prime minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in 2003 and was implemented in phases, beginning with year one, form one, and lower six students.
